Construction of a 120-foot high in-pit crusher pocket for 350-ton haul trucks. Ames work included 46,000 cubic yards of earthwork, 6,000 cubic yards of structural concrete, and 30,400 square feet of a Hilfiker retaining wall, 50 feet tall. Installations included 800 tons of structural steel, belt feeder, chutes, liner plates, drives and pulleys, dust collection system, 2,300 linear feet of a 72-wide belt conveyor and 3 transfer stations. Work was performed without interruption of mine operations, and was completed 31 days ahead of schedule. Under a separate contract, the old crusher pocket was demolished, including drilling and blasting of heavily reinforced concrete, removal of mechanical equipment, and demolition of a 100-foot tall MSE wall.
