Jim Bridger FGD #1 Pond Closure

Jim Bridger FGD #1 Pond Closure

Reclamation and closure of the 98-acre Jim Bridger Flue Gas Desulfurization Pond #1 in Wyoming included grading the existing bottom ash to grade, dewatering, liner and final cap placement to decommission the ponds. Two feet of cover soil was placed over the liner, seeded, and monitored for a year. Due to the geotechnical sensitivity of the ponded material, dewatering and sequenced cap construction were necessary to maintain geotechnical stability and to protect the liner and cover system.

The 7000-foot elevation of the Jim Bridger power plant shortened both the work and growing seasons. Ames crews worked a compressed schedule to meet the window of time to complete the fall planting.
