Ames Construction // Airports // Denver International Airport

Project Location: Denver, Colorado

Client: City of Denver

Synopsis of work:

Ames Construction was awarded the first major grading project for construction of the Denver International Airport (DIA), and it maintained an active presence until conclusion of the site work. Ames successfully completed six major contracts as a prime contractor and over forty additional contracts as a subcontractor.

Infrastructure work performed by Ames crews included earthwork and excavation, structural concrete, installation of sanitary sewer, and storm sewer box culverts with construction of eight bridges on the circulation road system surrounding the terminal. Our on-site batch plant and transit mix trucks provided over 400,000 cubic yards of flowable backfill to Ames pipe crews as well as underground contractors working at the site.

Ames Construction also completed a series of DIA expansion projects as a prime contractor including initial grading of the proposed sixth runway and construction of new wetland mitigation areas. The company served as the grading and utility subcontractor for a commuter parking lot, the air cargo apron/taxiway expansion project, and was involved with the relocation of the parking revenue facilities to the main terminal parking.
