Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Savana Sylvester

Ames Construction is proud to celebrate the extraordinary women on our team during Women in Construction Week—and every day of the year!

As we celebrate WIC Week and Women’s History Month, we’ll shine a spotlight on some of the women who contribute to the present and future of Ames and the entire heavy civil and industrial construction industry.

→ What made you join the construction industry?

A general interest in equipment and a desire for secure employment and room for growth within the field. How hard could it be? Boys do it.

→ What do you like best about working in construction?

Rarely doing the same thing from day to day and always learning something new. I also love operating and the challenge of the work.

→ How can construction attract more female candidates?

I think everyone can appreciate benefits like health insurance and a 401k, but I wish the many career choices construction has to offer would be more recognized. The opportunity for growth is immense, and not all construction is labor focused. There are operators, engineers, project managers, and so much more.
