Women in Construction Week Spotlight: Wednesday Rehm

Ames Construction is proud to celebrate the extraordinary women on our team during Women in Construction Week—and every day of the year!

As we celebrate WIC Week and Women’s History Month, we’ll shine a spotlight on some of the women who contribute to the present and future of Ames and the entire heavy civil and industrial construction industry.

→ What led you to join the construction industry?

I started out as an intern for a small building construction company in high school. During college, Ames gave me the opportunity to intern in the Utah region.

→ What has been the most memorable moment in your career?

I sat down for a lunch with some of our regional management one day, and I expressed interest in learning more about “big dirt.” Within a month, Ames offered to send me to a couple of our larger earthwork jobs in Utah to learn from some long-time superintendents. I did not expect that opportunity so soon after requesting it. It shows that Ames is invested in their employees’ career growth.

→ What does the future hold for women in construction?

I am excited to see the advancements in design and application techniques. As we attract more women, we will acquire their unique perspectives on how we can be better organized and efficient.
